Colony 09

Submitted by will on Fri, 06/04/2018 - 20:00

This was a swarm from Fettiplace Road in Barton caught in late June 2017. These were from the same feral colony that populated Hive E.

The colony got off to a bad start when I moved it from a National nucleus box to a Commercial box. I put the frames at the back, which weakened the door defence and led to robbing. The colony absconded so I re-hived them and moved them to Headington.

The colony starved in Spring 2018 because of the heavy robbing and the cold weather. I did feed them in Autumn but stopped when they switched from storing honey to building comb.
